## Biography

Harper Lee was an American writer, also known as Nelle Harper Lee. Her novel *To Kill a Mockingbird* (1960) formed the basis for the 1962 film of the same name, on which she is credited as novelist and producer.

Born in Monroeville, Alabama, Lee studied law before moving to New York to write. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961. The film adaptation was directed by Robert Mulligan, with a screenplay by Horton Foote and starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. Lee consulted on the production.

Lee assisted her friend Truman Capote with research for his book *In Cold Blood* (1966). She published no further novels during her lifetime.
