He arrived in Italy in the early 1940s as a member of a Viennese revue company. After the company disbanded due to the war, he appeared in Italian stage revues and began working in films from 1942. He is best known for his role as Major Fritz Bergmann in Roberto Rossellini's *Rome, Open City* (1945). Feist continued to appear in Italian films until 1955.
