## Biography

Hart Perry is an American filmmaker, cinematographer, director and producer. He studied art history at Columbia College, receiving a BA in 1969, and later an MFA from Columbia University in 1971.

Perry is known for his cinematography on the Academy Award-winning documentaries *Harlan County U.S.A.* (1976) and *American Dream* (1990), both directed by Barbara Kopple. His directing credits include *Valley of Tears* (2003), *John Hammond: From Bessie Smith to Bruce Springsteen* (1990) and various music and social documentary series for VH1 and PBS.

He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Peabody Award and Emmy recognition for cinematography. Perry has also directed music videos and long-form projects, often in collaboration with his wife Dana Perry.
