## Biography

Haruya Yamazaki (1938–2002) was a Japanese screenwriter who worked extensively in anime and television animation from the 1960s to the 1990s. He graduated from Waseda University and began his career with part-time work at Osamu Tezuka’s Mushi Production before going freelance in 1966.

Yamazaki contributed scripts to numerous series, including sports anime such as *Tomorrow’s Joe* (1970) and *Star of the Giants*, as well as science-fiction and adventure titles like *Space Pirate Captain Harlock* (1978), *Space Adventure Cobra* (1982) and *Nobody’s Boy: Remi* (1977). He co-wrote the screenplay for the feature film *The Castle of Cagliostro* (1979) with Hayao Miyazaki. Later in his career he also wrote novels and novelisations.
