## Biography

Hedwig Bleibtreu (1868–1958) was an Austrian actress. Born in Linz, she trained at the Vienna Conservatory and made her stage debut in Augsburg before joining the Burgtheater ensemble in Vienna in 1893, where she remained until 1956.

She appeared in more than thirty films between 1919 and 1952. Bleibtreu is best known internationally for her role as Anna's landlady in Carol Reed's *The Third Man* (1949). She was married to the actor and theatre director Peter Petersen and was the great-aunt of actress Monica Bleibtreu and great-great-aunt of Moritz Bleibtreu.
