Helaine Head is an American film, television and theatre director. She was born on 17 January 1947 in Los Angeles, California.

Head worked as a stage manager and director on Broadway productions in the 1970s and early 1980s, including *Porgy and Bess*, *Raisin* and *Piaf*. She began directing for television in the mid-1980s, with credits on series including *St. Elsewhere* (three episodes, 1986–87), *Cagney & Lacey* (three episodes, 1986–87), *L.A. Law*, *Tour of Duty*, *Law & Order* (1994) and *Sliders*.

She has also directed television films such as *You Must Remember This* (1992), for which she received a Directors Guild of America Award, and *The Danger Team* (1991). In the 2000s she became an associate professor of directing at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
