## Biography

Helen Black is a British screenwriter and novelist. She grew up in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, studied law at Hull University and worked as a solicitor specialising in childcare before turning to writing.

Her early novels include the Lilly Valentine legal thriller series, beginning with *Damaged Goods* (2005). She won the Kudos North Award in 2017 for her television script *Galaxy*, which led to writing credits on series including *Clink* (2019), *Death in Paradise* (2021) and *Grantchester* (2023).

Black co-wrote the second series of *Time* (2023) with Jimmy McGovern. Her single film *Life and Death in the Warehouse* (2022) was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru award. She created and wrote *The Wives* (2024) for Channel 5.
