## Biography

Helen van Dongen was a Dutch film editor active from the late 1920s to 1950. Born in Amsterdam on 5 January 1909, she died on 28 September 2006 in Brattleboro, Vermont.

She began working with Joris Ivens in the late 1920s and edited many of his documentaries, including *The Spanish Earth* (1937) and *The 400 Million* (1939). She later edited Robert Flaherty's *The Land* (1942) and co-produced and edited *Louisiana Story* (1948). She also produced and edited several compilation and independent films.

Van Dongen retired from filmmaking after her marriage to Kenneth Durant in 1950.
