## Biography

Helga Cranston, also known as Helga Keller, was a film editor born Helga May on 6 May 1921 in Darmstadt, Germany. She emigrated to England in 1939 as a Jewish refugee and began working as an editor in the mid-1940s. She was mentored by Reginald Beck.

Cranston edited Laurence Olivier’s *Hamlet* (1948) and *Richard III* (1955). She also worked with Otto Preminger on *Saint Joan* (1957) and *Bonjour Tristesse* (1958), and edited several other British films including *Madness of the Heart* (1949), *The Final Test* (1953) and *Model for Murder* (1959).

In 1958 she moved to Israel, where she continued editing films, directed short documentaries and later taught in the film and education departments at Tel Aviv University. She died on 1 March 2013 in Tel Aviv.
