## Biography

Helmut Berger (born Helmut Steinberger) was an Austrian actor. He appeared in European films from the late 1960s, often in roles with Visconti, including Martin von Essenbeck in *The Damned* (1969) and the title role in *Ludwig* (1973), for which he received a David di Donatello award.

He played Alberto in Vittorio De Sica’s *The Garden of the Finzi-Continis* (1970). Other credits include Konrad Huebel in *Conversation Piece* (1974), Frederick Keinszig in *The Godfather Part III* (1990) and Yves Saint Laurent in 1989 in *Saint Laurent* (2014). Berger died in 2023.
