## Biography

Henning Bendtsen was a Danish cinematographer. He was born in Copenhagen on 6 March 1925 and died on 8 February 2011. After studying advertising photography, he began working at Minerva Film in 1946, shooting shorts and documentaries, before moving to Palladium in 1951 and later working as a freelancer.

Bendtsen served as director of photography on Carl Theodor Dreyer’s *Ordet* (1955) and *Gertrud* (1964). He later worked with Lars von Trier on *Epidemic* (1987) and *Europa* (1991). He photographed around 100 Danish shorts, documentaries and features, and received a Bodil award for *Paw* (1959) and a Robert award for *Europa*.
