He was best known as the bassist and lead vocalist of the ska and pop band Doe Maar, which rose to prominence in the Netherlands in the early 1980s. Following the band's initial break-up in 1984, Vrienten concentrated on film and television scoring. His credits include *The Vanishing* (1988) and *Sonny Boy* (2011).
