## Biography

Henri Storck (1907–1999) was a Belgian filmmaker and documentarist. Born in Ostend, he began making films in the late 1920s and became known for his work in documentary and avant-garde cinema.

In 1933 he co-directed *Misère au Borinage* with Joris Ivens. With André Thirifays and Pierre Vermeylen he founded the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique in 1938. His other films include *Symphonie paysanne* (1944) and *Permeke* (1985). He also served as assistant director on Jean Vigo’s *Zéro de conduite* (1933).

Storck appeared as an actor in two notable films: as the priest in *Zéro de conduite* (1933) and as the first client in Chantal Akerman’s *Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles* (1975).
