## Biography

Henrik Galeen, also known as Heinrich Wiesenberg, was an Austrian-born screenwriter, director and actor. He was born on 7 January 1881 in Lemberg, Galicia, Austria-Hungary, and died on 30 July 1949 in Randolph, Vermont, United States.

Galeen began working in film in the 1910s. He co-wrote and directed *The Golem* (1915) and contributed to the screenplay for *The Golem: How He Came into the World* (1920). He is best known for writing the screenplay for F. W. Murnau’s *Nosferatu* (1922). Other credits include the screenplay for *Waxworks* (1924) and writing and directing *The Student of Prague* (1926) and *Alraune* (1928).

He worked in Britain in the late 1920s and early 1930s before returning to Germany. Following the Nazi rise to power he emigrated, eventually settling in the United States.
