Henry Mancini (born Enrico Nicola Mancini) was an American composer, conductor and arranger best known for his film and television scores. He was born on 16 April 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio, and died on 14 June 1994.

Mancini worked as a staff composer at Universal Pictures from 1952 to 1958, contributing to over 100 films. His score for the television series *Peter Gunn* (1958) brought wider recognition, and he maintained a long collaboration with director Blake Edwards. He composed music for films including *Imitation of Life* (1959), *Touch of Evil* (1958), *Breakfast at Tiffany's* (1961), *The Pink Panther* (1963), *Charade* (1963) and *The Great Mouse Detective* (1986).

Mancini won four Academy Awards and twenty Grammy Awards, including a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. His best-known works include the themes for *The Pink Panther* and *Peter Gunn*.
