## Biography

Henry O'Neill (10 August 1891 – 18 May 1961) was an American character actor who appeared in more than 175 films, typically in dignified supporting roles as fathers, lawyers, judges, officers and executives.

He began his career on the stage after leaving college to join a travelling theatre company. He served in the military during the First World War, returned to acting in 1919 and made his Broadway debut in 1921. His stage work continued into the early 1930s before he moved into films.

O'Neill's screen credits include *Flirtation Walk* (1934), *The Life of Emile Zola* (1937), *Jezebel* (1938), *They Drive by Night* (1940), *Anchors Aweigh* (1945) and *The Reckless Moment* (1949). His final film was *The Wings of Eagles* (1957). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and served on the board of the Screen Actors Guild.
