## Biography

Henryk Wieniawski was a Polish violinist, composer and pedagogue. Born in Lublin in 1835, he studied at the Paris Conservatory from the age of eight and graduated with first prize in violin at eleven.

He toured extensively across Europe as a virtuoso performer and composed works for the violin that remain in the repertoire, including two concertos, the Légende Op. 17, polonaises and the Scherzo-Tarantelle. His music has been used in films, including The Turning Point (1977). Wieniawski died in Moscow in 1880.
