## Biography

Herb Edelman was an American actor of stage, film and television. Born Herbert Edelman on 5 November 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, he studied at Cornell University and Brooklyn College before making his Broadway debut in 1963 in Neil Simon's *Barefoot in the Park*. He reprised the role in the 1967 film version and appeared in the film adaptations of *The Odd Couple* (1968) and *California Suite* (1978).

Edelman was twice nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. He is best known for his recurring role as Stanley Zbornak, the ex-husband of Dorothy Zbornak, in the sitcom *The Golden Girls* (1985–1992). Other television work included guest and recurring appearances in series such as *MacGyver*, *Murder, She Wrote* and *St. Elsewhere*. His film credits also include *The Way We Were* (1973) and *The Front Page* (1974), in which he played Schwartz.

Edelman died of emphysema on 21 July 1996 in Los Angeles.
