## Biography

Herbert Strabel (14 October 1927 – 21 October 2017) was a German production designer, art director and set decorator. Born in Berlin, he shared the Academy Award for Best Art Direction–Set Decoration for his work on the 1972 film *Cabaret* with Rolf Zehetbauer and Hans Jürgen Kiebach.

Strabel contributed to numerous international productions, including art direction on *The Serpent's Egg* (1977), *Despair* (1978), *From the Life of the Marionettes* (1980), *Lili Marleen* (1981), *The NeverEnding Story* (1984) and *Enemy Mine* (1985). He also worked as set decorator on *Brass Target* (1978) and received an Emmy nomination for art direction on the 1982 television film *Inside the Third Reich*.
