## Biography

Herman Rosse (also spelled Hermann Rosse) was a Dutch-American theatrical designer, architect, painter and art director. Born in the Netherlands in 1887, he worked in stage design in Europe and on Broadway before moving to Hollywood in the late 1920s.

He is credited with production design and set design on *Dracula* (1931), where he assisted supervising art director Charles D. Hall and designed the Castle Dracula facade using existing studio sets. He contributed uncredited set design to *Frankenstein* (1931) and *Murders in the Rue Morgue* (1932), and received the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for *King of Jazz* (1930). Rosse died in Nyack, New York, in 1965.
