## Biography

Hillary Brooke was an American actress. Born Beatrice Sofia Mathilda Peterson on 8 September 1914 in Astoria, New York, she worked as a model while attending Columbia University before moving into acting. She spent a year in England as a young woman, where she acquired an upper-class British accent that she used in many of her film roles.

Brooke appeared in more than 50 films, including *Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror* (1942), *Jane Eyre* (1943), *The Woman in Green* (1945), *Invaders from Mars* (1953) and Alfred Hitchcock's *The Man Who Knew Too Much* (1956), in which she played Jan Peterson. She was a regular on the television series *My Little Margie* (1952–1955) and *The Abbott and Costello Show* (1952–1953). She retired from acting after her final film role in *Spoilers of the Forest* (1957).

In 1960 she married MGM executive Raymond A. Klune; she had previously been married to assistant director Jack Voglin. Brooke died on 25 May 1999 in Bonsall, California.
