## Biography

Hilton Edwards (1903–1982) was an English-born Irish actor, director and theatrical producer. He began his stage career in the early 1920s at the Old Vic in London and later co-founded the Gate Theatre in Dublin in 1928 with his partner Micheál Mac Liammóir.

Edwards appeared in around fifteen films. He played Brabantio in Orson Welles’s *Othello* (1951), P.H. in *Victim* (1961) and a lawyer in *The Wrong Box* (1966). He also wrote and directed the short film *Return to Glennascaul* (1952). Primarily known for his work in theatre, he directed more than 300 productions at the Gate and received a Tony Award nomination in 1966 for *Philadelphia, Here I Come!*.
