## Biography

Hiroko Seki (関 弘子) was a Japanese actress and voice actress. She was born in Tokyo on 30 July 1929 and died there on 11 May 2008.

She trained at the Gekidan Haiyūza theatre company in Tokyo and co-founded the Gekidan Seinenza troupe in 1954. She appeared in live-action films including *The Funeral* (1984) and *Tales of a Golden Geisha* (1990), and provided voices for Studio Ghibli productions directed by Hayao Miyazaki, notably as Barsa in *Kiki's Delivery Service* (1989) and as Grandma in *Porco Rosso* (1992). She was married to Noh master Hisao Kanze from 1969 until his death in 1978 and received the Kinokuniya Theatre Award in 1981.
