## Biography

Hobart Van Zandt Bosworth was an American actor, director, producer and writer. Born in Marietta, Ohio, he began his career on the stage before entering films in 1908 with the Selig Polyscope Company. He helped establish the film industry in California and was known as the 'Dean of Hollywood'.

Bosworth formed his own production company in 1913 and produced adaptations of Jack London stories. He appeared in numerous silent films and successfully transitioned to sound, often playing supporting character roles such as fathers, judges and governors. Notable credits include Mr Apperson in *The Big Parade* (1925) and the Governor in *Lady for a Day* (1933). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.

Bosworth continued acting into the early 1940s and died in Glendale, California, in 1943.
