## Biography

Houston Elmore (1937–2020) was a union organiser and documentary participant. He served as an organiser for the United Mine Workers of America and appeared as Self - UMW Organizer in Barbara Kopple's 1976 film *Harlan County U.S.A.*.

He later appeared in the 2006 making-of documentary *The Making of 'Harlan County USA'*. Elmore was born in Chattaroy, West Virginia, and worked as an electrician for the Peabody Coal Company.
