## Biography

Howard Browne was an American writer and editor. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he worked as managing editor of the pulp magazines *Amazing Stories* and *Fantastic Adventures* from the 1940s, later becoming editor-in-chief in 1950. He left publishing in 1956 to move to Hollywood.

Browne wrote numerous scripts for television series including *Maverick* (1957), *The Fugitive* (1963), *Mission: Impossible* (1966), *Mannix* (1967) and *Cheyenne*. His film screenplays include *The St. Valentine's Day Massacre* (1967) and *Capone* (1975). He also wrote mystery novels, several under the pseudonym John Evans.

Browne died in California in 1999.
