## Biography

Howard Emmett Rogers (1890–1971) was an American screenwriter, playwright, lyricist and theatre director. Born in New York City on 13 July 1890, he wrote the books for the Broadway musicals *The Midnight Rounders of 1920*, *The Century Revue* (1920) and *Luana* (1930), the last of which he also directed, and supplied lyrics for *Red Pepper* (1922).

He began screenwriting in 1926 and worked for several studios, principally MGM, until 1952. His credits include the adaptation for *Tarzan and His Mate* (1934), the screenplay for *Libeled Lady* (1936) and the story for *For Me and My Gal* (1942). Later films made by MGM-British were *Calling Bulldog Drummond* (1951) and *The Hour of 13* (1952). He was an active anti-communist member of the Screen Writers Guild.
