Howard Gewirtz is an American television writer and producer. His credits span several decades and include work on *Taxi*, *Wings*, *The Larry Sanders Show*, *Just Shoot Me!*, *The Simpsons* and *Everybody Hates Chris*.

Gewirtz was born on 26 January 1952 in Rego Park, Queens, New York. He began his career writing for series such as *Busting Loose* and *Three's Company* in the late 1970s and early 1980s, later serving as a producer on *Taxi*. He created the Fox sitcom *Oliver Beene* (2003–2004) and was an executive producer on the first season of *Everybody Hates Chris* (2005), for which he also wrote an episode. He is the uncle of writer Brian Gewirtz.
