## Biography

Howard Jackson (born Howard Manucey Jackson) was an American film and television composer. He began scoring for Universal Pictures in 1929, with his first complete film score for *Broadway* (1929). He later worked at Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures, where he contributed to several early films directed by Frank Capra, often without credit, before finishing his career at Warner Bros.

He scored around 150 feature films and 250 short subjects. Among his credited and uncredited work are *I'm No Angel* (1933), *Lady for a Day* (1933), *It Happened One Night* (1934), *Mr. Deeds Goes to Town* (1936), *Calamity Jane* (1953), *Silver Lode* (1954), *Sergeant Rutledge* (1960) and *Merrill's Marauders* (1962). He also composed for television series including *Hawaiian Eye* and *The Gallant Men*.
