## Biography

Howard St. John was an American character actor who appeared in films, on television and on the Broadway stage. Born in Chicago, he made his Broadway debut in 1926 and went on to appear in more than twenty productions, including The Late George Apley and Two Blind Mice.

He specialised in blustery or unsympathetic supporting roles in more than thirty films. His screen credits include Shockproof (1949), Born Yesterday (1950), Strangers on a Train (1951) as Captain Turley, One, Two, Three (1961) and the 1959 film version of Li'l Abner, in which he reprised his stage role as General Bullmoose. He also worked extensively in television until the early 1970s.
