## Biography

Hubert Bath was an English composer, music director and conductor. Born in Barnstaple, Devon, he studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music from 1899. He later conducted opera tours and composed light operas before moving into film music.

Bath contributed to the score of Alfred Hitchcock's *Blackmail* (1929) and worked on other Hitchcock films including *The 39 Steps* (1935), *Secret Agent* (1936) and *Sabotage* (1936). His credits also include *Wings Over Everest* (1934), *Tudor Rose* (1936), *A Yank at Oxford* (1938) and *Love Story* (1944), which featured his *Cornish Rhapsody*. His march "Out of the Blue" has been the theme for BBC Radio's *Sports Report* since 1948. He died in 1945; his son John Bath also composed for film.
