## Biography

Hugh Beaumont (born Eugene Hugh Beaumont) was an American actor and television director. He appeared in numerous films during the 1940s, including *The Seventh Victim* (1943) as Gregory Ward, *The Blue Dahlia* (1946), *Objective, Burma!* (1945) and several entries in the Michael Shayne detective series.

Beaumont is best known for portraying Ward Cleaver in the television series *Leave It to Beaver* (1957–1963), a role he also directed in some episodes. He trained at the University of Chattanooga and the University of Southern California, from which he received a Master of Theology degree, and was licensed to preach by the Methodist church.
