## Biography

Hugh Millais (1929–2009) was a British actor. He appeared as Butler in Robert Altman's *McCabe & Mrs. Miller* (1971), Marcel in *Images* (1972) and Roy Endean in *The Dogs of War* (1980). His other film roles included Uncle Martin in *The Wicked Lady* (1983) and the US Colonel in *Chicago Joe and the Showgirl* (1990). He also appeared in British television series such as *The Ruth Rendell Mysteries*, *Kavanagh QC* and *Foreign Affairs*.

Millais was educated at Ampleforth College. His acting career began after he was spotted in a bar in Pamplona and introduced to Altman. He was the son of painter Raoul Millais and the great-grandson of Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais.
