## Biography

Hugo von Kaweczynski was a German cinematographer. Born in Hamburg in 1883, he trained as an accountant before learning to fly and serving as a pilot in the First World War. After the war he worked as a test pilot, then joined the film industry in 1921 as a camera assistant to Fritz Arno Wagner. He became a co-chief cinematographer in 1928 and often handled exterior shots from trains and aircraft.

Kaweczynski worked on many German films from the late silent era into the early 1940s. His credits include *Waterloo* (1929), *The Hymn of Leuthen* (1933) and *Stukas* (1941). He was one of the cinematographers on Leni Riefenstahl’s documentary *Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations* and *Olympia Part Two: Festival of Beauty* (both 1938). Health problems ended his career before his death in Berlin in 1945.
