## Biography

Hugues Laurent (24 June 1885 – 16 September 1990) was a French production designer, art director and set decorator. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and began working in film in 1904, also designing for theatre productions and working as a painter.

His credits include production design on *Boudu Saved from Drowning* (1932, with Jean Castanier) and *Les bas-fonds* (1936, with Eugène Lourié), both directed by Jean Renoir. In 1941 he was appointed head designer at Pathé and Gaumont. After the Second World War he taught at the IDHEC film school and directed more than 300 short films. He retired in the early 1960s and died in Tourrettes-sur-Loup at the age of 105.
