## Biography

Ian Stuart Black (21 March 1915 – 13 October 1997) was a British novelist, playwright and screenwriter. He studied philosophy at Manchester University and began writing for theatre before the Second World War, later serving with RAF Intelligence in the Middle East.

From the 1950s to the 1970s he wrote extensively for British television, including episodes of *The Invisible Man*, *Sir Francis Drake* (on which he was also story editor), *Danger Man* (where he served as associate producer) and *Star Maidens*. He wrote three serials for *Doctor Who*: *The Savages* and *The War Machines* (with Kit Pedler and Pat Dunlop) in 1966, and *The Macra Terror* in 1967; he also novelised all three for Target Books. His other credits include writing for *The Saint* and screenplays for the films *The Limping Man* (1953) and *The High Bright Sun* (1965). His final television credit was the 1991 drama *House of Glass*.
