Ian Toynton is a British-American television director, producer and editor. He was born on 22 April 1946 in Hendon, Middlesex, England, and was educated at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Elstree. He began his career in the British television industry as a film editor and sound editor on series including *The Sweeney* (1975), *Van der Valk* and *The Professionals*.

Toynton moved into directing in the early 1980s with episodes of *Minder*, *Bergerac* and the BAFTA-nominated miniseries *Widows* (1983). He relocated to the United States in the mid-1990s and has since directed episodes of numerous series, including *JAG*, *The Pretender*, *Relic Hunter*, *24*, *The O.C.*, *NCIS*, *Bones*, *Touch*, *Designated Survivor* and *SEAL Team*. He has also served as a producer or executive producer on *The O.C.* and *Bones*, and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing an episode of *24*.
