## Biography

Ilse Steppat was a German actress. She began her stage career in 1933 and became a member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne Berlin in 1937. Her film work began after the Second World War, with an early role in the 1947 DEFA production *Ehe im Schatten*.

In the 1960s Steppat appeared in several Edgar Wallace adaptations, including *Die Gruft mit dem Rätselschloss* (1964), *Der unheimliche Mönch* (1965) and *Die blaue Hand* (1967). Her only English-language role was as Irma Bunt, assistant to Ernst Stavro Blofeld, in the James Bond film *On Her Majesty's Secret Service* (1969). She was married to the actor and director Max Nosseck.

Steppat died of a heart attack in West Berlin on 21 December 1969, shortly after the Bond film's release.
