## Biography

Imogene Coca (born Emogeane Coca) was an American actress. She was born on 18 November 1908 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died on 2 June 2001 in Westport, Connecticut.

She began performing in vaudeville as a child acrobat and studied ballet before moving into stage musical revues, cabaret and summer stock. In her forties she became known as a comedienne on television, starring in series including *Your Show of Shows* (1950–1954) opposite Sid Caesar.

Coca received five Emmy nominations for *Your Show of Shows*, winning Best Actress in 1951, and a Peabody Award in 1953. She earned a Tony Award nomination in 1978 for *On the Twentieth Century* and a sixth Emmy nomination for an episode of *Moonlighting* (1988). Her film roles included Aunt Edna in *National Lampoon's Vacation* (1983).
