## Biography

Inez Courtney was an American actress who appeared on the Broadway stage and in films. She began her career as a specialty dancer in vaudeville before moving to Broadway, where she performed in musicals including *The Wild Rose* (1926), *Good News* (1927) and *Spring Is Here* (1929).

In the early 1930s she left Broadway for Hollywood, appearing in around fifty-eight films between 1930 and 1940. Her screen credits include *The Raven* (1935), *Suzy* (1936) and *The Shop Around the Corner* (1940), in which she played Ilona. She retired from the screen after *Turnabout* (1940).

Courtney was married to Italian nobleman Luigi Filiasi and thereby acquired the title of Marchesa, though she did not use it. She died in Neptune, New Jersey, in 1975.
