## Biography

Irene Dailey was an American actress. Born in New York City, she trained with Herbert Berghof and Uta Hagen and began her career in vaudeville and summer stock before appearing in numerous Broadway productions.

She received acclaim for her role as Nettie Cleary in the 1964 play *The Subject Was Roses*. On television she played Liz Matthews in the soap opera *Another World* from 1974 to 1994, winning a Daytime Emmy Award in 1979. Her film credits include *No Way to Treat a Lady* (1968), *Five Easy Pieces* (1970) as Samia Glavia, *The Grissom Gang* (1971) and *The Amityville Horror* (1979).

Her brother was the actor Dan Dailey. She died in Santa Rosa, California, in 2008.
