## Biography

Irene Sunters was a Scottish actress. She trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and appeared in theatre productions at venues including the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, the Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, the Royal Court and the Tron Theatre.

She played May Morrison in the film *The Wicker Man* (1973) and was best known on television for the recurring role of Maggie Ferguson in the Scottish soap *Take the High Road* (1980–1990). Other credits include appearances in *Edge of Darkness* (1985), *Taggart*, *Rab C. Nesbitt* and *A Sense of Freedom* (1981). Sunters died in Glasgow in September 2005.
