## Biography

Isabel Jewell was an American actress. Born in Shoshoni, Wyoming, on 19 July 1907, she began her career in theatre stock companies, including an extended run in Lincoln, Nebraska. She gained attention on Broadway in *Up Pops the Devil* (1930) and *Blessed Event* (1932), which led to a contract with Warner Bros. and her move to Hollywood.

Jewell appeared in supporting roles throughout the 1930s and early 1940s. Her credits include *Design for Living* (1933), *A Tale of Two Cities* (1935), *Lost Horizon* (1937) as Gloria Stone, *Gone with the Wind* (1939) as Emmy Slattery, *High Sierra* (1941), *The Seventh Victim* (1943) and *The Leopard Man* (1943). Later roles were often smaller or uncredited. She died in Los Angeles on 5 April 1972.
