## Biography

Isabel Pons was a Hispano-Brazilian visual artist and costume designer. Born in Barcelona on 28 January 1912, she became a Brazilian citizen and worked primarily in engraving and other media. Her works are held in collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, and museums in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Pons designed the sets and costumes for the 1959 film *Black Orpheus* (Orfeu Negro), directed by Marcel Camus. She received international awards including the Neblí Prize in Madrid and five prizes at the São Paulo Biennial. She died in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, on 3 June 2018.
