## Biography

Ivan Moffat was a British screenwriter, film producer and socialite. Born in Havana, Cuba, to the actress and poet Iris Tree and the photographer Curtis Moffat, he was the grandson of the actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree. He moved to London as a child and later attended the London School of Economics.

After serving in the British Army during the Second World War, Moffat worked in Hollywood, initially as an assistant to director George Stevens. He served as associate producer on *A Place in the Sun* (1951) and *Shane* (1953). His screenwriting credits include the adaptation of Edna Ferber's novel for *Giant* (1956), for which he shared an Academy Award nomination with Fred Guiol; *D-Day the Sixth of June* (1956); *The Wayward Bus* (1957); *They Came to Cordura* (1959); *Tender Is the Night* (1962); *The Heroes of Telemark* (1965); and *Black Sunday* (1977). He also contributed to television, including episodes of *Colditz* and the telefilm *Florence Nightingale* (1985).
