## Biography

J. C. Wilsher, full name John Charles Wilsher, is an English television screenwriter and playwright. He is best known for police and law enforcement dramas.

He worked as a researcher at Lancaster University before beginning his writing career in radio. Over more than forty years in television he contributed scripts to series including *The Bill* (53 episodes, 1989–2001), for which he is credited as creator of the spin-off *Between the Lines* (1992–1994). He also wrote episodes of *Torchwood* (2008), *New Tricks*, *Midsomer Murders*, *Silent Witness*, *The Vice*, *Death in Paradise* and others.

Wilsher served as Past President and Deputy Chair of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain. *Between the Lines* received WGGB Awards for Original Drama Series in 1993 and 1995, as well as BAFTA, Royal Television Society and Broadcasting Press Guild awards.
