## Biography

Jack Albertson, also credited as Harold Albertson, was an American actor. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, he began his career in vaudeville as a dancer and comedian before moving into stage, film and television roles.

He played Grandpa Joe in *Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory* (1971). Other film roles include Manny Rosen in *The Poseidon Adventure* (1972) and the voice of Amos Slade in *The Fox and the Hound* (1981). On television he portrayed Ed Brown in the series *Chico and the Man* (1974–1978).

Albertson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for *The Subject Was Roses* (1968), having previously received a Tony Award for the Broadway production of the same work. He also received Emmy Awards for his television performances and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6253 Hollywood Boulevard.
