## Biography

Jack Beaver (27 March 1900 – 10 September 1963) was a British film score composer and pianist. Born in Clapham, London, he studied at the Metropolitan Academy of Music, Forest Gate, and the Royal Academy of Music under Frederick Corder. After graduating he worked for the BBC and, from the early 1930s, contributed to radio drama and music features.

As a member of the Gaumont-British Pictures composing team he wrote around 40 film scores between 1932 and 1947, many uncredited. These included music for Alfred Hitchcock’s *The 39 Steps* (1935), *Sabotage* (1937) and *Young and Innocent* (1937), as well as the piano concerto *Portrait of Isla* for *The Case of the Frightened Lady* (1940). He also scored numerous documentaries in the *Secrets of Life* series.
