Jack Couffer was an American cinematographer, director and producer. Born in Upland, California, he studied at the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television after serving as a combat photographer in the Second World War. He specialised in nature and wildlife films, working for more than a decade at Walt Disney Studios on the True-Life Adventures series in roles that included cinematographer, writer, director and producer.

Couffer received an Academy Award nomination for best cinematography for *Jonathan Livingston Seagull* (1973). He produced *Never Cry Wolf* (1983) and served as second-unit director on films including *Sheena* (1984) and *Out of Africa* (1985). He also directed features such as *Ring of Bright Water* (1969) and *Living Free* (1972), and contributed a screen story for *Cheetah* (1989). Couffer died on 30 July 2021 in Costa Mesa, California.
