## Biography

Jack Cummings was a Canadian-American film producer and director. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1905, he was the nephew of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio head Louis B. Mayer and began his career at the studio in the 1920s as an office boy before advancing to producer.

He produced numerous MGM musicals, including *Born to Dance* (1936), *Kiss Me Kate* (1953) and *Seven Brides for Seven Brothers* (1954), the latter earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Later independent productions included *Can-Can* (1960) and *Viva Las Vegas* (1964). He was married to Betty Kern, daughter of composer Jerome Kern.
